Superbowl 50 Projection, Week 14, Sunday

Carolina over New England

The AFC and NFC both have new favorites again, due to Carolina's stomping of Atlanta, and Cincinnati's loss to Pittsburgh. Carolina finally, officially, clinched their first round bye at 13-0.

After all my hard work figuring out the scenario that gets them into the playoffs, San Diego went and lost to eliminate themselves. Also eliminated Sunday were San Francisco, Tennessee, Detroit, and Baltimore.

New England has clinched at least a tie for the AFC East, and New York needs 19 different games to go their way to win via strength of victory. I don't think they can win strength of schedule. Besides winning all their games and hoping New England loses out, they need Cleveland, Miami, and Tennessee to win out to increase their strength of victory, and Houston, Buffalo, and Pittsburgh to lose out, to lower New England's. Since Miami's one of the teams that needs to win out, New England could clinch their division as early as tonight.

The Rams pulled out a victory over a mediocre Lions team, so I'm holding out hope they can make it to 8-8 and maybe grab a wildcard slot. They've got a short week this week with a game against Tampa on Thursday - in possibly their last game in St. Louis ever - then plenty of rest before traveling to San Francisco and Seattle to hopefully finish strong. They'll need help too, since Seattle and Minnesota both already have 8 wins.
