A Rodney Hampton Contest Win, Part II

I'm falling a little behind on posting due to several days a week of NFL projections and NCAA Football Power Rankings, so now's the time I start catching up. I won this contest back in September, by guessing how many Rodney Hampton cards were in a lot purchased at Sport Card Collectors.
[Part 1]

1989 Donruss #182 Kirby Puckett
1989 Donruss #193 Mike Schmidt
1998 Donruss #40 Wade Boggs
2001 Fleer Futures #2 Manny Ramirez
2002 Donruss #39 Bernie Williams
2015 Topps - Gold #404 Tanner Scheppers #0528/2015
1989 Donruss is one of those junk wax sets I seem to always have plenty of, but with many of those, I'm often missing the big stars. So the Mike Schmidt card actually fills a gap in my collection. I did have a copy of the Kirby Puckett card already. One of these years I'm going to collect a full parallel set from Topps, like the Gold set of this Tanner Scheppers card.

1995-96 Topps
#277 Michael Jordan
#278 Patrick Ewing
#283 David Robinson
1997-98 Topps
#118 Keith Van Horn
#125 Tracy McGrady
I don't have a whole lot of basketball cards, but these are right in my wheelhouse. I rooted for Michael Jordan during his heyday with Chicago. It's hard to believe his comeback was now over 20 years ago.

I got two unopened packs of this 1992 Elvis Collection set as part of my prize pack. They're all new to me, as my non-sports collection is pretty small. I was happy to see the cards didn't have the dreaded melted sticky gloss, as many older unopened packs of cards do. They're all in good shape. There's a good mix of black and white and color images, and images from concerts, movies, and Elvis's life. I'd say my favorite is #425, featuring his white studded jumpsuit from a concert.

That's it for the prize package. Thanks again to Sport Card Collectors for the contest!

eBay Wins #58

In this edition of eBay Wins, I have not 1, not 2, not 3, not eveen 6, but 7 penny cards. Let's have a look from youngest to oldest.

2001 Fleer Futures #195 Jace Brewer
I know MLB draft picks don't always pan out, but I would think a 5th rounder would have made it to the majors. Jace here appears to have finished with baseball in 2007, never reaching the Rays. That's the downside to sets like Fleer Futures, or modern Bowman. Normally you haven't heard of many of the players when the set is made, and odds are you'll never hear of some of them.

2000 Upper Deck MVP #77 Gerald Williams
If I really wanted to stretch, I could call Williams a former Cardinal. We signed him after his release from the Yankees in 2002, and sold his contract to the Reds about a month later. He never played a game for us (or Cincinnati), so I'll leave him off the list.

1997 Bowman #127 Anthony Sanders

1992 Topps Kids #120 Harold Baines
Topps Kids is one of the sets I'd like to complete, though it's not a priority yet. This card brings me to 1/12 of the set, 11 out of 132.

1991 Bowman #278 Mike Jeffcoat
I think Texas should stick to blue hats. This is just a classic look, and it's what I think of when I remember Nolan Ryan pitching for them.

1982 Fleer #186 Warren Cromartie

1982 Fleer #371 Von Hayes
And now we've jumped all the way back to 1982 with these 2 Fleer cards. The photos really are that fuzzy. For some reason I can remember Von Hayes as a player when I started watching baseball in 1992, despite him playing in the AL. I probably can't say that about many guys in the 1982 set. And apparently Warren Cromartie thinks he can bring MLB back to Montreal, or did as of last August.

eBay Wins #12

A random lot of Arizona Diamondbacks? For 12 cents, why not?

1999 Skybox Premium #108 Andy Benes

2000 Bowman #274 Jack Cust

2000 Bowman #306 Jackie Rexrode

2000 Fleer Focus #150 Erubiel Durazo

2000 Fleer Focus #88 Tony Womack

2000 Fleer Focus #27 Steve Finley

2000 Pacific Omega #10 Matt Williams

2000 Pacific Omega #6 Jay Bell

2001 Fleer Futures #183 Alex Cabrera
I miss the old Purple and Teal Diamondbacks. I actually bought a hat in 1998 or so when they first came into being which is white with a purple bill. It's ugly as sin (see it here), so it's not surprising that look didn't last long.
