Bowl Pick 'Em Contest Winnings, Part XVI

College football will be here again before we know it IS HERE, so I've got to get my prize from last season's Bowl Pick 'Em contest at Cards on Cards posted! My prize for a second place tie was a very generously sized box of cards, so I felt a bit overwhelmed even sorting through them. I finally sorted them out by player, and, as usual, I'll plan to post them all eventually, but I might quit halfway through, we'll see.

Part I II III IV V VI VII VIII IX X XI XII XIII XIV XV

I had a decent number of Vince Coleman cards in the prize package, along with a few more from the same sets to round out this post.

1985 Fleer Update #U-28 Vince Coleman
1986 Topps #66 Cardinals Leaders
1986 Topps #370 Vince Coleman
1987 Donruss Highlights #36 Vince Coleman
1987 Fleer Limited Edition #10 Vince Coleman
1987 Sportflics #65 Vince Coleman
1991 Post #5 Vince Coleman
2013 Topps Archives #233 Vince Coleman
I'm very conflicted about that 2013 Archives card. On one hand, I like the card, and you can't have it! On the other hand, I first assumed it was 1986 Topps or Topps Traded from looking at the front, especially because it's a picture from somewhere around that time, not like the other Archives cards with modern pictures on card designs from 20-60 years ago. The actual 1986 card above tipped me off to double check the back, and I saw the 2012 copyright. I don't like getting confused by my cards, since I want to keep them all categorized and cataloged as correctly as possible. But, we can't really have modern cards with classic designs without running into this problem, I guess.

Donruss Highlights and Fleer Limited Edition were both sets I didn't have any of in my collection before these Vince Colemans.

1990 Topps Mini League Leaders
#73 Vince Coleman
#74 Jose DeLeon
I like these minis, like most minis, and I only had 2 of this set so far. There are two more Cardinals in the set, although since I collect Cardinals in any uniform, there are several more I'd like to get, too.

Random Cardinals from Josh, Part I

I won a little contest at Royals and Randoms, just for doling out an opinion. The randomizer fell my way, and here's what showed up in the mail.

1983 Topps #734 Steve Braun
The oldest card of the bunch, nearly as old as me. I must admit I don't think I've heard of Steve Braun though.

1987 Sportflics #173 John Tudor
I'm not sure why I even scan Sportflics cards. They never look nice like they do in person.

1991 Classic Game
#29 Joe Magrane
#173 Todd Zeile
Now we're getting to the guys I remember.

1991 Fleer - Team Stickers - Cardinals
I wish I wasn't so hung up on keeping my cards in good condition so I could stick these stickers on things.

1995 Flair #410 Brian Jordan
This is my first 1995 Flair card, I think, unless there are some in my unsorted boxes.

2005 Turkey Red #39 Preston Wilson
I like all of the Turkey Red sets, so I've got most of the Cardinals (and former/future Cardinals) on my wantlist. This knocks one more of them off, which is always appreciated.

More next time...

A Trade with Cards on Cards, part 2

See part 1 here

As mentioned before, Cards on Cards sent me way too many cards to label in one post.
2010 Topps Heritage Cardinals

9 more Ozzie Smith cards:
1986 Sportflics
1987 Sportflics
1987 Fleer Star Stickers
1988 Topps - Mini
1988 Topps - UK Mini
1989 Donruss
1990 Topps (1989 All Star)
1990 Kmart
1991 O Pee Chee Premier

I must admit I struggled a bit to figure out the two minis with the same number from the same year.  Apparently the second one was from packs released in the UK.  At least according to Wikipedia.

Big Fun Game Delivery

Napkin Doon ran another great Big Fun Game, and yet again I was fortunate enough to get to play.  I drew the 2nd pick, and wound up with:
2010 Bowman Stephen Strasburg

A scoundrel stole it from me, however, resulting in a compensatory pick for:
A Well-loved 1958 Clemente

Then, a pirate stole my Pirate, and my 3rd pick yielded:
2011 Gypsy Queen Green Border inserts.

These are cool cards, including a Red Schoendienst to go with the mini Ryan G threw into a previous contest win.  However, one thing I simply cannot find is what these green border cards are officially called, or how rarely they were inserted.  I don't care what they're "worth" per se, I'm just genuinely curious now what to call these, as well as how rare they are.  Coincidentally, I also won some Gypsy Queen inserts in the last Big Fun Game.

Napkin also threw in this bonus:

1987 Sportflics mini team logo trivia card, #7 of 136

That's a hologram card with 2 Cardinals logos depending on the angle from which you're looking.  Ending sentences with prepositions is something up with which I will not put.

Thanks for the Big Fun Game, Mr. Doon.
